I realise that my last post may have angered people.. well it annoyed me after a while. Urgh "Happy New Year", what was I thinking??!
Thing is, just starting out with a blog.. what do I talk about?! I have so many things that I want to say, but to put it all in order is a little frustrating. I just hope I develop some sort of style and continuity to my posts. Thinking about it this may become a part diary, part journal blogging experience.
Urgh, I don't know about you... but I hate the word diary. And journal. I mean journal.. surely comes from the word jour, French for day. And diary.. maybe it comes from the Spanish word dia for day. Come on! We must have had some sort of word for it before the United Kingdom became so 'Continental' with our espresso and croissant for breakfast. The English language has been developed over THOUSANDS OF YEARS... and we don't have an 'English' word for that.
I put 'English' in brackets there because it can be argued that Great Britain was invaded by the Romans, Vikings, French, blah, blah, blah- yea whatever!
I don't mind when there are certain words or phrases that we have no word for in English have weasled their way into society. That's fine! As they aren't doing some of our words out of their jobs. Things like 'deja vu' or 'que sera sera'. HOWEVER, why do some people put French words into sentences just to sound more posh or intelligent?! Sort of like the Del Boy figure from 'Only Fools and Horses'- you sound like an idiot. If you can't find an appropriate word in your own language and try to replace it with a foreign one, then you clearly aren't as intelligent as you are making out to be.
Of course, I have to say that none of the above applies to Mr Stephen Fry. He is supremely intelligent and speaks Latin. I mean come on- Latin! The man is amazing.
Please don't misunderstand, I love foreign languages. I just don't understand why some people find it necessary to interject random foreign words into a sentence. It becomes extremely apparant when people go abroad.
I speak a little French and a minute about of Spanish. I can count to 10 in German too, and say a handful of words in Greek. Little things that I've picked up over the years. But at no point do I profess to be fluent in anything except English. My mother speaks a little German, Greek and French. When we go abroad to Greece or France she does make an effort to speak the language. This is a good sign! (If you are visiting a country, for however long and whatever reason- I believe that it is common courtesy to learn the basics- 'Hello', 'Goodbye', 'Please' and 'Thank You'. Politeness is a dying art.)
However, my Mum will say what she can in the language- let's say French, but not think forward and realise she doesn't know one of the most crucial words. *I realise I'm rambling and not making much sense at this point* So for instance- (this is a completely made up situation, as luckily Mum would know this!) "Where is the cheese?" ... "Ou est les... les... Cheese?"
It just bothers me! Mostly because these sort of situations happen when we go over to France for the day. And most of the employees in the supermarkets in Calais are well used to English customers and probably speak better English than several English people I have met in my lifetime! Just learn some French or just admit that you speak English.. it's not a problem! And if it is to whoever you are speaking to- then just learn something insulting for when you go back next time.
Guaranteed you'll remember it.

Happy (Belated) New Year!
Well Happy New Year everybody!!
I'm still counting it as New Year. Although technically I got fed up of "Happy New Year" being broadcast on every from of media by the 3rd January! Saying that though I had barely recovered from the exploits of NYE by then.
Anyway.. back to whatever point I was making.
I promised myself that when it got to 2011 I would start a blog of my ramblings, as I've always dabbled in a bit of writing- and hey! why not?! And of course, the deadline came and went. So I then promised myself that as soon as I got a new laptop I would start the blog, as of course the present laptop was unsufficient! Ha! Well of course that then led to my laptop breaking.
So here I am, about 2 weeks after getting my new laptop, and I am only just starting. Welcome to my world.
I can promise that deadlines will come and go, that my posts will be opinionated, cynical, sarcastic.. and if you're lucky, they may even make sense!! I can't however promise that everyone will love what I have to say, they are after all my opinions. And may even offend people. I just want to apologise, there is no harm intended.
So maybe i should write something about myself. Well, I'm 22. I recently finished 3 years at University and have obtained a 2:2 degree.. *yawn*. Oh and yes, I have joined the ranks of the unemployed- what joy! So yes I will also be rambling about UK politics (what I understand of them) and my traumatic experiences with the job centre.
Lets move on to things that I actually enjoy, I'll probably write individual posts later on about these. Reading, films, TV, travelling, make up, music, socialising, going to the pub, coffee (I will explain) and yea.. probably some other stuff but that can wait.
Think I've made this post long enough for now. I'll move on to some of my interests or opinions in a bit. I guess I'm just in a writing mood this evening and "This could be the start of a beautiful friendship". I just hope at least one person reads this, and I'll have achieved some level of success and thats enough for me!!
